About Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sirohi
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sirohi is established in the year 1989 by the ICAR, New Delhi is an extension centre responsible for transfer of front line technologies among the farming community of district with the mandate “Technology Assessment and Demonstration for its Application and Capacity Development”. With the establishment of AU, Jodhpur in 2013, it was transferred from MPUAT, Udaipur to AU, Jodhpur along with all movable and immovable properties.
KVK, Sirohi is located 8 km away from Sirohi on four lane National Highway No.62 towards Sumerpur. It has 34.5 ha land, out of which 28.8 ha land was under cultivation up to 2020.Now all the available area under the institute has been brought under cultivation by removing shrubs and unwanted trees. At the tail end of farm, there is a large rain water harvesting structure used for irrigating crops when it is filled with rain water. It has Sirohi Goat Unit, Poultry Unit, Napier Grass Unit, Nutri-Garden Unit, Vermi-composting and Azolla Unit, NADEP Composting Unit, Custard Apple Orchard, Mother Orchard of kagji & barahmashi Lemon, well developed Nursery supported by six staff residential quarters.
At present, Senior Scientist and Head along with Four SMS (Home Science, Plant protection Extension Education, and Horticulture), Farm Manager, one PA (Lab Technician and), Stenographer, one Driver and one Support Staff are working at KVK, Sirohi.
Mandates of KVK
Organize short term and long term vocational training courses in agricultural and allied sectors for farmers and rural youths with the emphasis on learning by doing for higher production on farms and generating self employment.
Conducting on farm testing for identifying technologies in terms of location specific sustainable land use system.
Organize trainings to update the extension personnel with emerging advances in agricultural research on regular basis.
Organize front line demonstrations on various crops on proven technologies to generate production data and feed-back information.
Work as resource and knowledge centre of agricultural technology for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector for improving the agricultural economy of the district.
Future Thrust Area
Productivity enhancement of the field crops as mustard, castor, greengram, chickpea and fruit crops as papaya, lemon, guava etc.
Soil Health Management
Diversification of cropping systems involving spices like fennel and cumin, medicinal crops like isabgol, vegetables like tomato, okra and chilli, fruit crops like papaya, pomegranate, lime, mango etc.
Promotion of dual purpose breed of goat (Sirohi) and improvement in local breed of cow and buffalo.
A drudgery reduction, health and nutrition and sanitation for women empowerment has to be given prime importance.
Popularization of dry land farming technologies in watershed areas, IPM, INM technologies, Hi-tech horticulture, etc.
Promotion of Natural farming in the district.
Skill development of tribal youth for income enhancement through self employment.
To promote Climate resilient agriculture through natural resource conservation, soil conservation and local breed improvement.
